Cody Dean Yelm

Cody Dean Yelm, 26, formerly of Princeton, IL, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL, in the loving arms of his parents.

Cody was born on December 4, 1992 at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, IL, to Curtis D. and Charlotte J. (Story) Yelm.  He was a graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 2011. The family moved from Princeton, IL, to Pingree Grove, IL, to better accommodate Cody's medical needs.  Cody was a survivor of S.I.D.S. when he was 6 months old. Even though he had difficulties, his parents and family made sure he lived a very full and loving life.

He enjoyed watching old games shows during the day, calling them the “buzzer” shows.  He loved his Chicago teams, Cubs, Bears, White Sox, Bulls and Black Hawks. He was invited to Halas Hall by Coach Dick Jauron where he was also invited to have lunch with the coach.  Every year Coach invited Cody to the Bears Training Camp, which he gladly was able to attend. He met so many players, two especially always went out of their way to speak to Cody, Mike Brown and Charles Tillman.  He attended the Chicago Bears 100 Year Celebration in June, 2019.

Another sport Cody loved was golf, a hobby he shared with his father, who taught him how to golf at a very young age.  Cody loved the game so much that through the “Make A Wish Foundation” his wish was to go to the birthplace of golf, St. Andrews Course in Scotland, a family trip, that will never be forgotten.  He attended the BMW Championship in August 2019 and met so many of his favorite golfers, such as, Ricky Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Harold Varner III. Most days you would find Cody with his beloved dog companion Caydi on his lap or playing ball with her.

He enjoyed traveling with his family.  His goal was to see all 50 states, he managed to see 24 of the 50 and to travel to Scotland, England and Canada.  His parents did their very best to ensure that this happened for him. He was able to visit his favorite state of Rhode Island.  The last states he visited were New Mexico and Colorado which was in June and July of 2019.

Cody is survived by his loving parents, Curtis and Charlotte Yelm of Pingree Grove, IL; Caydi his beloved companion dog; his grandmother, Shirley J Anthony of Princeton, IL; one grandfather Roland “Dean” Yelm of Princeton, IL; one step grandfather, Thomas Thiele of St. Petersburg, FL; one uncle, Charlie (Collette) Yelm of Princeton, IL; two aunts, Shelly (Steve) Christiansen of Mapleton, IL and Kimberly (John) Bock of North Fort Myers, FL; five cousins, Katie (Mike) Sayler, Michael (Whitney) Yelm, Tyler (Teal) Christiansen, Ryan Christiansen and Tory Christiansen; as well as several great cousins, great aunts and uncles.

He is preceded in death by one grandmother, Sarah Genevieve Yelm, one grandfather, Edward G. Story, one step grandfather, Jerry Anthony as well as his great grandparents.
