The Bureau County HCE, Home and Community Education, will sponsor the annual pie contest at the Homestead Festival on Saturday, Sept. 7.
The contest will be held in the food tent at Soldiers and Sailors Park in Princeton. A person may enter as many pies as they wish. However, prizes are limited to one per person.
A few things to remember: pies must be two-crust fruit pies; each pie should be in a disposable pan; recipes for both the crust and the filling must be submitted with the pie; for judging purposes, entrant’s names cannot be included with the recipe. All pies are to be brought to the park by 9 a.m. on Sept. 7.
All pies entered will be judged and all pies will be auctioned at noon. Four cash awards will be awarded by judges to the top four pies. There will also be a junior division for those aged 18 and under who wish to enter. The junior division will also receive cash awards. There is no advance entry requirement and no entry fee. The contest is open to everyone.
