Illinois Valley Community College communications student Ryan O’Rourke of Streator recently received the full-tuition Steven W. Rigazio Scholarship to Eureka College.
O’Rourke was a member of the IV Leader student newspaper, IVCC College Democrats and former member of the Friends of Lance Yednock campaign. After graduating from Eureka, he plans to go into journalism. With a passion for baseball, he would like to become a columnist, writer or blogger.
The scholarship was created and financed by Tony and Gretchen Rigazio of Oglesby to honor the memory of their son Steven, a 1974 IVCC graduate who went on to become President of Nevada Power Co.
After being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in 1999, Steven helped found Nevadans for the Prevention of ALS to raise money and awareness of the incurable disease. A married father of two, he died in 2001 at age 47.
